Many of us know have parents that wish to continue living in their own home as they age and/or desire to live with their children in a comfortable home family environment instead of relocating to a retirement living facility.
For 2016 both the Federal and Ontario governments have a $10,000 non refundable tax credit (at 15% each) that is available for qualifying individuals doing qualifying renovations that provide better accessibility to eligible dwellings for just this purpose.
These amounts must be paid by the end of the calendar year, so if you know of anyone who has or is considering doing this, it would be a good time to do so.
